The prestigious Mawson Cup, which has been running since 1977, was won after an action-packed final at Throstle Nest in front of the biggest gate of 435 that the final has seen, against local rivals The Commercial from Armley.

After slugging it out 1-1 after extra time the Libs won on penalties 4-3 with goals from Steve Bennett, Andy Weston, Rick Simpson, Steve Hargreaves and two saves from Phil Gill worthy of an England call up.

The league was secured recently with a 3-2 win over their nearest rivals Bramley.

It brings to a close a great season which saw the Libs lose one game from 18.

Since then they never looked back, unbeaten in 17 games, winning 14 of them, and currently the Libs are unbeaten for 22 games combining cup and league fixtures.
