More than 1,200 people turned up at Pudsey Police Station – but not to report crimes, just to find out how a modern cop shop works.

It was the station's annual open day, and Leeds Rhino and Great Britain rugby star Jamie Jones-Buchanan opened the event.

Hundreds of local residents and children poured through the doors of the station at Dawson's Corner.

They enjoyed guided tours, as did local MPs John Battle and Paul Truswell together with local councillors. Visitors were able to view a wide range of stalls and displays including police dog handling.

The West Yorkshire Force helicopter, already on operations in the area, also staged a "fly-past."

There was fun for the youngsters including a bouncy castle, face painting and even the chance to have photographs taken and placed on a "Wanted" poster.

Youngsters also got the chance to sit in police vehicles. The day was rounded off by a visit from the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Leeds,
Coun and Mrs Frank Robinson.

Insp Tom Horner, from the Pudsey neighbourhood policing team, said: "The Open Day was a huge success. It was an excellent opportunity for officers and staff to engage with local citizens."

The day was sponsored by ASDA, Marks and Spencer, Boots and McDonalds.
