The market town was bathed in light after Andy Devine, who plays Shadrack Dingle in Emmerdale, was the mystery guest who helped to turn on the Christmas lights in the Market Place.

He was accompanied by the town's Carnival Queen Lauren Prince and Father Christmas.

Real Radio presenter Ian Brannan kept an eye on the proceedings and Ronnie the Rhino brought the Super League trophy retained by the Rhinos this year along with him.

There was also a performance by Sukbir Kaur and SSC, who both impressed at this year's citywide talent search Breeze Has Talent.
