LONG distance specialist Shaun Denham was in action for the Pudsey Pacers at the Yorkshireman off-road Marathon on the Pennine moors above Haworth.

He recorded a time of four hours and 36 minutes for a tremendous 9th position in the pairs event, accompanied by partner George Eyles.

The Yorkshireman 'Half-Marathon' was actually run over 15 miles, a highly demanding race in its own right.

Leading the way for the Pacers was Nigel Armitage, who finished 5th overall in 1:52:24. Dave Cooper was an impressive 22nd in 2:05, with Diane Wood 23rd lady home in 2:37.

Kirkstall Harriers staged the inaugural running of their 7.25 mile Kirkstall Trail Race, a scenic tour of the lower Aire valley starting and finishing in the Abbey grounds.

The Pacers women's team, holders of the team title from the now defunct road-race, again held off all challengers to score another fine win.

Congratulations are due to Ann Francis, Paula Bray and Karen Thrippleton, with Ann taking 5th place overall in the ladies' race.

First home for the men was Jim Wheldon, who also won the MV55 category, with Mark Dixson and Nigel Craven also performing well.
