Karen Pickles: Pudsey Pacers new recruit leads from the front

Pudsey Pacers new signing Karen Pickles led the women's team to a tremendous second place at the 10 mile 'Guy Fawkes' race from Ripley Castle.

Karen, who joins from Spenborough Athletic Club, was second only to Olympian Tracey Morris when finishing in 63:52 for 21st position overall among the 800 strong field, with Ann Francis (76:07) and Sharon Hague (84:10) the other counters.

Paul Gaile led the way for the men, taking 31st position in 65:08, closely followed by Dave Woodhead, 46th in 66:34.

Don Stead maintained his fine form of late, claiming second place in the MV70 class when recording an impressive 81:48 for this scenic but hilly tour of Nidderdale.

Nigel Armitage (MV35) and Jim Wheldon (MV55) both took second place age group awards at the Yorkshire Vets Fell Running Championship, held in conjunction with the 'Cop Hill' event promoted by Meltham Athletic Club.

Nigel completed the seven mile course, featuring 900 feet of ascent, in 52:50 for 14th position overall, with Jim 31st in 57:01.

Russell Stead (22nd in 55:08) was well placed among the V40s, with other strong runs coming from Gary Phillips and Alyson Glover.
