Music and dance were the themes of the carnival parade which launched Pudsey Carnival 2009, and despite mixed weather the event drew the crowds to a day of fun activities.

There was a a display of tightrope walking and other circus skills which local youngsters were given a chance to try.

While the carnival's main aim is to provide a good time for all, there is also a charitable aspect to the celebrations.
Organisers said: "With so much 'doom and gloom' we decided our 2009 event would focus on young people's activities and achievements and our parade theme of 'Music and Dance' is complemented perfectly by
this year's designated charity, Pudsey-based Northern Star Group.
"The group offers training in public performance to young people."
Sponsors and supporters included local councillors, Marks and Spencer, Asda, and many local businesses, who made cash donations and provided prizes for competitions.
