Pudsey Civic Society has just failed to rescue Stanningley Hall from demolition despite involving English Heritage in the planning process. However it was more luck than management that the Society was even involved in this issue due to its lack of constitutional activity.

The Society was formed in 1974, when the old Borough area was taken into Leeds, with aims of stimulating public interest in the area; promoting high standards of planning and architecture; secure the preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the area.

At present the Society is thriving but very heavily biased towards history and it does very little else towards its stated aims.

A change of constitution is being considered unless there is support for areas such as:

* Commenting on planning applications;
* Environmental issues, Street Lighting;
* Conservation, Listed Buildings;
* Countryside ways and footpaths;
May be you can think of more ways it should be working?

Anyone with an interest in any of these issues and areas as well as Rodley, Stanningley and Fulneck should come for an informal discussion.

Barry Brown, PCS Treasurer, himself a new volunteer, is keen to widen the Society's activities and involve more people.

Contact Barry on (0113) 2560395 to offer active support.
