Volunteers from an environment group have been busy clearing invasive weeds from Pudsey's Black Carr Woods.
Herbs And Dragonflies will be planting trees in the woods this autumn, but first had to remove the Himalayan balsam from the site.

Group volunteers, staff from West Yorkshire Joint Services and members of Pudsey Civic Society spent two hours removing hundreds of balsam plants.

The weeds, which spread so far because of their exploding seedpods, will now be composted.

A tree-planting walk led by Herbs And Dragonflies will take place on the October 3.

The group received a grant from the Leeds Community Foundation to buy blackthorn, guelder rose, hawthorn, hazel, holly and rowan trees.

The group are arranging the walk with West Yorkshire Archive Service as part of the Tracks In Time project to put all of Leeds' Victorian tithe maps online.

The walk through Black Carr Woods will follow Pudsey Beck, which forms part of Pudsey's boundary.

Herbs And Dragonflies are currently taking part in a community film-making workshop after getting a place in a BOOM! workshop and hope to film the tree-planting event to put online.
