The Stroom, in Chapeltown, claimed the top spot in three of the seven award categories including Best Overall Restaurant, Best Food and Best Service in the toptable.com awards.

The first toptable.com Leeds restaurant awards were based entirely on ratings and reviews provided by restaurant goers who visited the 48 eateries listed on the website.

Chef Patron of The Stroom, Richard Gibson said that he was particularly delighted that his customers were being given a voice.

He said: "It is always flattering to receive good reviews and high ratings, but it is particularly special to receive this customer-voted award and to be recognised as one of the best dining establishments in the area.

"It is a real credit to the whole team and all their hard work."
The awards reflect the site's growth in the city where the credit crunch has failed to dent the appetite of restaurant goers."

Mat Braddy, Marketing Director for toptable.com said, "The number of bookings made by Leeds diners increased by 75% over the last year bringing in 9,106 customers to the city's restaurants and creating £340k in revenue for the sector.

"This is evidence of an ever growing interest in eating out and also that users are spending their money smartly."
