A Stanningley salon is going into overdrive to help raise money for cancer research by organising a 'Top Gear' style race to the south of France.
Staff at the Beechwood Hair Studio, on Bradford Road, will be replicating the popular television series to see whether an Aston Martin car or European rail services is the quickest from Pudsey to Nice.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of the programme's victor Jeremy Clarkson is director Michael Hector who will be driving the car, loaned from Performance5 Ltd in Leeds, while stylists

Alison McCann and Sarah Beard will be left at the mercy of public transport.

The race is expected to take just over 16 hours. People will be able to place a £1 bet on which mode of transport will win. So far, the salon has raised £450.

Michael Hector said: "This will be a very interesting race and will also be a lot of fun to take part in because everyone will remember it from the television programme, Top Gear.

"We have had a great response from clients and I am particularly looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Aston Martin.

"If everything all goes to plan then we should get to Nice within two minutes of each other, so it will be a close finish.

"I have got a lot of confidence in myself and the girls think that they could win so who knows what could happen!"

The fund-raising doesn't stop there for the salon as five other members will be running the Race for Life with Alison and Sarah on Sunday, May 18.

In total, they are hoping to raise £2,000 from both events.

* If anyone would like to donate they can contact Michael at the salon on (0113) 2555535.
