Littlemoor post office on Valley Road in Pudsey faces the axe.
The branch is one of 22 in Leeds earmarked for closure.

Post Offices are losing around £3.5m a week with four million fewer
customers than two years ago.

Residents will have only a six week consultation – starting from today –to save any branch earmarked for closure.

The criteria for the future Post Office network focuses on the number of households able to access branches.

In urban areas 95 per cent of the population will be within one mile of a branch.

In rural areas 95 per cent of the population will have to travel up to three miles.

If the closures all go ahead, there will be 209 branches in urban areas of West Yorkshire and 73 in rural areas.

A Post Office statement said: "Post Office Limited is acutely aware of the concerns the changes affecting Post Office branches in the West Yorkshire area will cause.

"If these proposed changes take place, Post Office Limited will remain the largest retailer by network size in the area, and will still have more branches open than the number of branches of major banks and building societies combined."

YOUR VIEWS:

After visiting Littlemoor Post office today i was very disapointed to hear about it's proposed closure.
Local post offices are invaluable in communities, many people rely on them especially the elderly.
Many elderly are confined to their homes most of the week and look forward to their visits to their local post office where they are greeted with polite friendly staff that have the time and patience to help and advise them, at Littlemoor Post Office you are not just another customer like in larger branches you are person, they show interest about yourself, your families and this to many people is very important.
The Government is always stating it wants to bring back family values and community spirit yet it is constantly removing it from us, allowing enormous companies to open stores forcing our community shops to close and now taking away our Post Offices, what is going to be next? Our Churches?

We are very lucky in Pudsey to have our main branch but this is already a very, very busy office. It is almost unheard of to visit this branch and not have to queue for quite some time, don't get me wrong, this branch does serve it's purpose, ideal to renew Car Tax, exchange currency etc and is super for local businesses but for the everyday things, buying stamps posting parcels etc our local Post Office is a better option for most of us.

I think it will be a terrible shame to allow this Post Office to close and as a community we must try and oppose it.

As our local paper i hope we will see you supporting our Post Office and putting up a fight.
