Nigel's main role will be to develop business and commerce, by utilising Pudsey's existing resources including the leisure facilities, open spaces, markets and events to attract visitors to the area.

Councillor David Blackburn chair of the Outer West Area Committee, said: "Nigel's appointment will help build on the regeneration work already ongoing in Pudsey and provide a link to the existing businesses in the town. This appointment will provide a coordinated approach to promoting the town centre to help increase visitor numbers and ultimately boost the town's economy."

One of the first ideas Nigel will put into action is to launch a business forum for Pudsey where local businesses can meet to discuss issues they feel are affecting their businesses, and hold themed events where other outside agencies will be invited to offer business advice.

Nigel said: "Pudsey is also a fantastic little town with everything you need on your doorstep. As part of my job I intend to help the residents and businesses of Pudsey make the most of its history and heritage.

The Inner and Outer West Area Committees are jointly funding the role.

Nigel will be employed by Leeds Ahead who offer a business brokerage service and this will give his role some independence from the council.
