A new sign marking the boundary of Pudsey has been erected to replace a former one that disappeared during demolition work.

The original sign – bearing the Pudsey coat of arms – went missing during demolition work on the mill complex on Roker Lane in late 2006 and, despite repeated attempts, has never been found.

Coun Richard Lewis (Lab, Pudsey) said: "We were very frustrated that we couldn't locate the original sign which was put up by the old borough of Pudsey about 40 years ago. It's depressing to think that it's probably just been weighed in for its scrap value.

"However, I'm glad that we have secured an attractive new boundary sign for Pudsey, which will please residents who've asked us."
