PUDSEY residents have praised local neighbourhood policing team officers whose swift actions saw a man arrested at the scene of a burglary.
A woman called police after she returned to her home in Post Hill Court and noticed an upstairs light was on on September 30. While officers were on their way to the property they were informed that an intruder was on the premises.
Officers from N
orth West Leeds West Inner and West Outer NPTs were the first on the scene and quickly set up a cordon around the house before going in to search the address.
Disturbed by the officers, the suspect ran across an upper landing and jumped out of the upstairs window. But as he jumped he was grabbed by two quick-thinking officers inside the house who were able to safely lower him down into the waiting arms of colleagues below.
He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and searched by officers.
Items were recovered from him which the householder identified as being hers.
The 37-year-old man, from Armley, has been charged and remanded to prison.
Inspector Tom Horner, of the West Outer NPT, said: "Local NPT officers went to speak to neighbours to reassure them about the incident and all of them said they were really pleased with the speed and professionalism we had shown in responding to this call and arresting a suspect at the scene.
"Officers across North West Leeds Division are currently carrying out a range of proactive operations to target burglars and people who handle stolen goods, particularly with the nights getting darker earlier, and we would like to reassure people that we will continue to do all we can to keep cutting this type of crime."
