Pudsey Grangefield Mathematics and Computing College moved into new buildings costing more than £40m last week.

Staff and students yesterday welcomed minister Rosie Winterton MP, to view the new facilities, built as part of a £260m education regeneration project in the city.

Ms Winterton also visited Allerton High.

She told the YEP: "It really is a privilege to visit these two schools in Leeds which have benefited from the Building Schools for the Future programme and to witness personally the positive reactions from students and staff as they begin the new school year in such impressive buildings.

"Already, I am hearing of pupils feeling safer, of feeling proud and of students enjoying going to school."

The two schools are now based in stunning new buildings complete with facilities such as fitness suites, sports halls and dance studios.

Chris Edwards, chief executive of Education Leeds, said: "Education Leeds has been transforming learning through state-of-the-art buildings and facilities for some years but these extraordinary buildings take this to a new height."
