Boss Simon Weaver says his Harrogate Town squad are champing at the bit to run off any excess turkey – with four new strikers licking their lips about getting in the goals.
Town remain in the relegation mire as 2009 draws to a close with Weaver's side set to host a New Year's Day local derby against Farsley Celtic tomorrow (kick-off 3pm).
Volunteers have been helping clear the CNG Stadium pitch of snow and now Weaver only has his fingers crossed for a mild night this evening.
Town have not won in Blue Square North since September when they defeated Redditch United 3-2 at home but Weaver has made big changes since including four new signings up front.
Forwards Simon Yeo, Lee Gregory, Jason Bradley and Peter Knox are all in line for their league debuts tomorrow and Weaver is convinced the quartet hold the key to turning Town's poor form around.
Weaver has also signed last season's Tamworth captain, midfielder Martin Foster, plus former Manchester United reserves winger Ben Muirhead who began this season at tomorrow's visitors Farsley.
Convinced his side are gradually improving, Weaver said: "I think performance-wise, things have definitely turned around.
"You look at the fixture list and we got stuffed by Alfreton in mid-October and I think since then, yes there have been one or two defeats, but they have been very narrow defeats.
"We have been in contention in each of the games, certainly, but I think if I'm being honest we've lacked firepower.
"We have added four new strikers in the last four weeks and I think all of them could make a very big impression for us.
"Hopefully then we can start climbing up the table.
"There have been some very good performances for us at the back and in midfield but when the ball keeps coming back, it's disheartening for
everyone involved.
"If we can put it up there into the last third and it sticks, then we have got a better base to play from."
Assessing tomorrow's prospects of playing, Weaver added: "It all depends on the forecast and I think the forecast isn't too bright for Thursday evening.
"I think we are forecast a little bit more snow but if it's minus four it's probably looking doubtful.
"The new lads are really keen to play, as are the existing players.
"We just need a game to see how well everyone can gel as a team together and the players need to run their turkey off."
Farsley will start warm favourites should tomorrow's match get the go-ahead and Neil Parsley's outfit would be nestled on the periphery of the play-offs but for their troubles with administration and pre-season points deduction.
Town, meanwhile, are in big danger at the foot of the table but Weaver's men are now at least off bottom following Monday night's 4-2 defeat for Vauxhall Motors at Fleetwood Town.
Weaver admits even leapfrogging Vauxhall gave his men a psychological boost.
"As somebody pointed out to me the other day – we are second bottom now, not rock bottom," said Weaver.
"With Vauxhall losing 4-2, we are off the bottom of the table and you do get a psychological boost from that.
"All the lads are fighting for their places now because we have got quite a large squad and we have got stronger and stronger over the last few weeks.
"Competition for places is very high and so everyone has to play very well to keep their place in the team."
And while the first half of 2009-10 has hardly been one to savour, Weaver is optimistic that weather permitting his side can begin 2010 with a bang.
"We are very confident that we have a very good chance of taking three points to take us into the new year," he said.
"Hopefully, then, it's marching on together."
